Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort

Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort

Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort on Curaçao opened its doors this summer. “Opening a resort during a pandemic was not an easy task, but with hard work and dedication from every member of our family, we have been able to overcome all obstacles,” said Gunay Uslu, Director of Hotel Development and Design for Corendon Hotels & Resorts.

Gunay Uslu is the sister of Corendon’s founder, Atilay Uslu, and he was also there for the ribbon cutting ceremony. The Hotel Development Director emphasises the challenging construction process and countless challenges, as well as unique character of this large-scale project.

This resort is one of the largest and most sustainable in Curaçao. For example, the roof has 1,600 solar panels that provide the entire complex with continuous electricity. The location is special, located in the middle of nature between beautiful mangrove trees on a beautiful barrier reef, right by the sea. A little further away is the special pier where cruise ships from all over the world normally dock.

Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort fulfils an important local role for the inhabitants of the Caribbean island. In addition to providing employment, close co-operation is enjoyed with the various institutions, organisations and communities of Curaçao. Local artists created works of art specially commissioned by the resort, and they have now become an important part of the resort. With the prominent role of these unique works, the resort wants to contribute to encouraging its guests to “get out and about” to explore the bustling neighbourhood of Otrobanda, Willemstad and all the other parts of the beautiful island in order to discover and meet the inspiring people of Curaçao.

Interior Group and co-creator Keijsers Interiors were asked to carry out the interior construction of this large-scale project. Two of the three buildings are now complete. There are 405 rooms in total, making the Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort the largest and most sustainable hotel complex on Curaçao. Interior Group made the headboards for all the beds in the hotel rooms, as well as the desks, cupboards, mirrors and washbasins. With an eye for detail and a delicate finish, these products are right at home in the 405 hotel rooms.

The sushi bar, restaurant, reception and indoor bar were also designed by us. We were also allowed to participate in the design of the public areas. It was a challenging project due to the logistics, warmth and different culture, but what a beautiful thing it is. We are very proud of the collaboration and the result.
