Zaans Medical Centre

Zaans Medical Centre

“Good architecture appeals to all the senses.” The overall experience of a visit or stay in a hospital must contribute to the patient’s recovery, while still retaining a pleasant working environment. Mecanoo architects from Delft designed the building, Silo conceived the spatial identity of the interior. Keijsers was invited to contribute ideas for the ergonomics and hygiene. Standing and seating areas for employees were incorporated. We were asked to build and install the receptions, interiors for the patient rooms, and the customised interior of the public areas.

Working with developer, Vitaal Zorgvast, we set up an innovative centre that is among the top sustainable hospitals in Europe. One of the formulas applied was the LEAN philosophy. No unnecessary waste, of materials or energy. This includes the reuse of water, heat recovery from air ventilation, and an intelligent application of heat and cooling. For example, ZMC became Europe’s first LEAN hospital to be awarded the BREEAM-NL “Very Good” certificate in 2016.

In 1 word? All the partners are immensely proud of the outstanding added value the achieved result brings.
